[He's given up, surrendered, let go of the tiny pinprick of light that represents his life. It was a surprisingly peaceful moment, his mind far beyond the pain of his body. Rest for the warrior came only in death, and he had earned his rest with blood and pain and tears. Real, human tears, but only a few.

Hawks can't cry.

But they can wake up slowly, as he does, blinking a few times and letting his gaze shift over his surroundings.

Movement! There, between the grass, a tiny mouse. Nose poking up out of a hole. A hole he doesn't know. This isn't his meadow. He digs his talons into the branch. Not his tree either.

Not even his body.]

<Marco, if this is some kind of sick joke, I'm going to poop on you every morning for the rest of your life.>

[A fairly hollow threat, more out of worry. He was dead... wasn't he? He shifted sideways, bumping his Hitomi and knocking it to the ground. It activates, looking up at his belly as he shuffles, closer to the trunk of the tree.

Once there he lowers his head.]

[He smacks his skull on the bark twice, shakes his head roughly.]

<Great. I really hope this isn't the Cretaceous. Again.>

[He stretches his wings out, as if he intends to take flight, and instead tucks them back against his sides, sticking his head under one wing, preening a feather, and trying to figure out if his beak is still cracked. It isn't.

This is either a Sario Rip or the Ellimist's doing. Either way, he is not a happy hawk.]

<Well, at least there seems to be plenty of food.>

[He settles into his perch and lets his gaze focus intently on the grasses nearby. He either ignores or doesn't see the Hitomi on the ground beneath him.]

<Yeah, I knew Marco. And I'm new here, too. I'm Tobias.>

[So many people! He's not really sure what to do with himself, with so many messages. He's going to end up spending all day under this willow, if he isn't careful.

He's already said way more than he should in public -- if you can call these video messages public, and it makes him uneasy. He shifts his weight between his talons a few times.]

<So... anything I need to know? Any laws about eating mice?>

[LAME, Tobias! That was so lame. Way to make a great first impression. He might as well declare himself king of roadkill.]

[And now you have a blond boy with an expressionless face to contend with. He nods a little.]

"Good, I usually eat mice. Sometimes rabbits. I try to avoid the ones that are secretly people, but if it's a secret, it's kind of hard to tell."

[Hah. Have a joke. Delivered in perfect monotone without so much as a hint that it was, in fact, a joke. He's been a hawk for a touch too long.]

"I haven't heard much, except that not everyone who comes here is dead like me. Well. My father and I are both dead. And here." [Which is just weird, and there's a hint of expression to go with it, unease as his eyes dart to the side, then back to the screen again.]

"Anyway. I've also been told that this place is called Kannagara. And there's been some talk about so-called gods." [But he doesn't trust gods, or believe in them.]

"I don't suppose one of them is called Ellimist or Crayak?" [It would be just his luck, if they were.]

[Tobias shrugs at the camera.] "Elfangor." [And that's all the explanation you're getting because even Tobias is a little fuzzy on the details of his own birth. Except that it involved Elfangor becoming a nothlit.]

"So... are you gonna fill me in, or should I just take to the air and check this place out for myself?" [He doesn't mean to come off sounding irritated, but it's hard not to when his face is blank.]

"Well... no. Not exactly. He was in human form when he... well. You know." [He hopes. Oh god, he hopes. Because otherwise it would just be creepy, but now the thoughts are there and his left eye starts twitching, just a little. He clears his throat.]

"Yeah. Anyway. Uh. I don't suppose you know if there are any Yeerks here?" [As if it would be that easy to find out. But you can't blame the kid for trying.]

"I don't really know what else to ask. There are cities here, right? Buildings and stuff?" [Cinnamon buns? Bun-zuh. Zuh. He's spent a little too much time with Ax, he realizes.]

"Morotron? Never heard of those, but that doesn't mean much," [He gives a weak laugh. He's seen more alien species than he'd ever wanted to, and it seemed like a new one was popping up every month or two.]

"Maybe you meant Helmacrons?" [Oh, god, he hoped not. Those little bastards were nothing but a menace.]

"Villages?" [For some reason, that particular word makes him uneasy. Villages bring to mind little shanty-town style huts. He frowns tightly.] "I'll check it out, thanks. It's weird, though. There aren't many buttons."

[Tobias offers an attempt at a smile.] "Well, if it's Helmacrons, I'm sure they'll find me soon enough."

[He pokes at the screen a few times, blinks.] "I see it. Thanks. I guess I already have a place to stay -- apparently Elfangor lives around here, with some guy named Matt." [Though his tone said clearly that this is an awkward subject.] "I guess I'll see this place for myself, soon enough."

[Tobias gives a soft laugh at all the perking up.] "Yeah, he seems really decent. It's gonna be weird, having a family." [She's just too nice for him not to open up, at least a little. She reminds him of Cassie.]

"Yeah. If you see a hawk in the sky... give me a wave." [This time he gives her a grin. It looks awkward on his face, but it's honest.]

[He blinks a few times, then nods.] "Sounds like fun. Flying is the best." [He waves as the video feed cuts.]
