The gods have given us warning of the impending future! Earlier this week, many Kannagara citizens reported seeing the same vision -- a future where our fine villages will become over-run with the heathen Others who fill our streets with confusion and destroy the simple pleasures of life. Surely, such a shared vision is the work of a great god who wishes to forewarn us of the threat the abominable foreigners bring. We must not be accepting of this barbaric race and cast them out wherever they may be! Take heed, fellow citizens. A time of great misfortune is upon us; should we not take action, we will certainly befall tragic doom at foreign hands. Let not our homes and land be turned into the colonies of the barbarians! The Order of Kannagara calls for all who will act to gather at the Sarutahiko Shrine to pray for the expulsion of the Others from our lands.

Many months have passed since Those-Of-Other-Worlds have arrived in our lands. Faithful Celestials have prayed for answers as to the question of their presence, yet have received no answer from the Heavenly Gods. It is clear no answer will be provided, and much uncertainty fills the hearts of many Celestials as the Others continue to arrive in great numbers. Hisato’s Natsuno Ryokan will soon be filled to capacity, and many Hisato residents have been questioning where new arrivals will stay.

The Others appear to come in all shape and sizes, male and female, young and old. Some possess great powers and have demonstrated their abilities in Yomisato’s Tournament. Yet even more appear to be of no great threat to our noble race. They have proven themselves to be quite heathen in forms of worship and are quite barbaric and uncivilized in dress and manner, indeed. Many have been observed to eat with their hands and other strange tools summoned from foreign lands.

It has been of great contestation whether these Others can become civilized. A few witnesses in Mizusato have claimed to have seen a group of barbaric Others in Celestial dress and practicing similar rituals, yet such sightings are so rare it is uncertain as to the truth of these claims. Even more popular is the rumor of a strange machine often seen upon the Others’ persons. It is in the shape of a small box and has been said to possess magical power. We know not yet the true nature of this machine, but many Others have been witnessed speaking to the machine.

[ The article goes on to describe the Hitomi and asks for information on it to be sent to an address in Hisato. It also provides what appears to be up to date numbers of Others in the Celestial villages with an approximated (and very incorrect) number for Yomisato. Predictions as to the growth of the Others is also included in the article. ]

A large number of Other-Worlders have settled in the Celestial Villages, and many others are following. We shall undoubtedly have a large addition to our population. In the providence of the Heavenly Gods, some of these foreigners may bring rich treasure to our lands. Despite recent fears and anger, Othermen have shown themselves to be quite industrious and law-biding.

Though they possess strange manners of dress and worship heathen gods, and may be quite barbaric in some custom, these Othermen have demonstrated themselves quite useful to the growth of industry and even technology. They are quite adept at increasing production of labor, some with strange powers of duplicating oneself, thus creating a workforce twenty times larger for the pay of one man. Othermen have shown to be willing to work for less wage, and to be as skilled in such arts of carpentry and hard labor as fine Celestials.

[ The article continues to describe how Yomisato has been benefiting tremendously from employing Other-Worlders. ]

[ This article is a cheerful article boasting the good, civilized ways Those-Of-Other-Worlds have demonstrated. Though it contends they worship heathen gods and have some uncivilized ways of manner, they have proven to be quite civilized in many other ways in respecting Mizusato customs. There is even mention of a foreign bakery that many Mizusato residents have delighted in visiting due to its strange but rather delectable fare. It is said the owner of the bakery is not a heathen and pays homage to Konohanasakuya-hime-sama, judging by the well-kept shrine in the shop that always has fresh offerings. The village elders encourages Mizusato residents to not pay any heed to the news from the Celestial mainland of the barbaric ways of Others. ]

[ This article discusses how the travel routes have become safer in recent times and an improvement in trade. However, it notes with a bit of disdain that Other-Worlders think this is somehow their problem. It questions the intent of the Others to become involved in such a thing, and wonders if perhaps there is some secret agenda or trickery to this, beyond that of an honest, paying job. ]

With the exciting conclusion of the qualification rounds, Tournament Season continues at The Great Arena of Yomisato! Our first thrilling matches will be upon us soon. In the coming weeks, we will see many a great contender spill blood and claim glory on our soil!

[ This is an article discussing the construction of a new housing district due to a projected population increase. The housing district will take over some of the ghettos and decimated areas of the city. It talks of the forceful eviction of many tenants and even some businesses. The writer speculates whether a few Other-Worlders might have been turned out of their homes as well. ]

[ A schedule for slave auctions is posted here. It appears there will be several coming up at the end of the month. ]

[ This article is a rather angry, disdainful article that castigates the Celestial Villages for continuously casting out more of their own to Yomisato. It notes that most of those thrown out are women, who are often unskilled and do not have the means or ability to support themselves. Yomisato is running out of places to house them or to offer them any means of employment. The article criticizes the Celestials for being hypocrites in their prejudice against their own. ]

[This post? Is such a mess. Rin needs a good while to sort all the things that are wrong with it out in her head, such a mess it is. And it is honestly infuriating, this language, this treatment, and the hidden ultimatum underneath.

It's enough to make her temper boil over and cause her to throw all caution to the wind for a moment.]

So you're going to insult us, belittle us, ask us to be guinea pigs for your study and ask us to please let ourselves be used for your benefit in the same breath?

That's not very nice, you know. Wonder what those Gods would have to say about that.
Feb. 12th, 2011 03:42 pm (UTC)
Given their behavior so far I think they are condoning this treatment~
Feb. 12th, 2011 04:13 pm (UTC)
[That just gets a dry laugh.]

They would, wouldn't they? Awfully congruent with their message of harmony.
Feb. 12th, 2011 06:07 pm (UTC)
Re: [voice]
Perhaps they are trying the "harmony in the face of adversity and persecution" approach?
Feb. 12th, 2011 06:20 pm (UTC)
[Taken aback, just a tiny bit. A pause, then a look of realization, followed by one of bitterness.]

That would just make them sadists.

[Yes, she is angry. And determined to stay so for a while.]

Re: [voice]
Given all of the things that happened up to this point I would be more surprised if they weren't. We have to remember they don't play by human rules but by their own.
Feb. 12th, 2011 08:33 pm (UTC)
Yeah, no kidding.

In the end, they just do what suits them.
Feb. 13th, 2011 05:21 pm (UTC)
Re: [voice]
And we're stuck cleaning up the mess. Providing we can, that is.

Hardly a fair situation.
Feb. 13th, 2011 05:30 pm (UTC)

But it's okay, really, I -- it's okay. After all, life hardly makes a habit out of being fair.
Feb. 13th, 2011 06:20 pm (UTC)
Re: [voice]
Which is why the whims of these so called *gods* are even more of a nuisance. Life is unfair as enough as it is.
Feb. 13th, 2011 06:33 pm (UTC)
... hey, I was trying to be optimistic.

[And failing, she knows.]
