[ The Hitomi turns on quite suddenly; this broadcast is technically in video, but Lelouch's Hitomi is tucked inside his jacket and the camera isn't picking up the surroundings. The audio is unaffected, though, and the ambient buzz of many people whispering and murmuring is a constant ripple beneath the voices currently engaged in something that sounds like a debate.

Or a trial. ]

[ A deep voice, the voice of a man with authority: ]

So you admit that you willfully and knowingly took in and harbored a fugitive woman; moreover, a fallen woman, whom the law demanded must be punished for her crimes? You felt yourself to be above our laws, Outsider?

[ A voice clearly belonging to Lelouch replies, with his typical rhetoric: ]

What human law is greater than the law of nature? A child should stay with the mother who gave birth to it, what exactly is more natural than that? Besides, I didn't circumvent the ultimate outcome of your judgement, now, did I? Akino Hanabi would have been sent to Yomisato regardless. If anything, I expedited the process for you.

[ A shocked, angry murmur amongst the crowd. The man's voice again, angrier: ]

How dare you. How dare you mock our ways - you who would take in a helpless, sinful woman and stain her honor further. You who blaspheme and mock the proper order of things, who live with another woman unwedded to you -

[ Lelouch interrupts: ]

- What do you care?! She's an outsider, like me, isn't she? Are you really trying to tell me that you care so much about what we do? No, in fact; you don't. Really, not a single one of us would rather be here than back where we belong, but the fact is, your precious gods are the ones who dragged us here, and there's not a damn thing any one of us can do about it!

[ A recoil - the murmur becomes shouting, but not enough to drown out Lelouch's voice, still pressing his advantage. Lelouch is rarely this reckless; but the video isn't showing him, the cuts and bruises on his face and body from his forcible arrest a day ago. ]

As a matter of fact, I've met one of them. In person, face-to-face. [ The volume of the crowd spikes; he has to strain to make himself heard: ] Ame-no-Uzume-sama, goddess of the dawn! And you know what? I think you deserve to know - she's a total bitch, actually -

[ A sharp crack and the crowd is suddenly, dangerously silent. It can rightfully be inferred that Lelouch has been painfully restrained from speaking.

His accuser's voice, cold: ]

You all heard the blasphemy.

[ Silence. The man again: ]

His crimes are capital. So, then, will be his punishment.

[ The feed cuts. ]

[So this is what things have come to. It's quicker than Rin expected. Or perhaps quicker than she wanted it to.

Either way, it is quite horrifying. To someone Rin knows, too -- vaguely, not having spoken to him in a long time. But she remembers Lelouch, from the early days, when they were still out exploring this strange world they'd landed in.

It is a good thing he did, taking in that poor woman. And this is the consequence? All the hardships they've endured, met with such scorn, such open, unabashed, willfully hostile scorn! It's not fair. It's really not fair.

And so upsetting, so deeply disturbing in ways she had not anticipated, but that doesn't matter. She feels tears coming on, but bites them back, keeping her voice just barely under control.]

Lelouch-san? Where are you? Please answer!

If anyone hears this, do you now where he might be? We can't let this happen!

[Dutifully switches to text.]

Okay. Thanks for letting me know. I'll see what I can do.

[Iskierka has been watching the proceedings, and she is not too happy to hear what is going to happen to Lelouch. For one, in Iskierka's mind, Lelouch did nothing wrong by helping that woman. Iskierka would have done the same, had she been in his position. Secondly- AND more importantly- Lelouch was British, and even though Iskierka didn't know him well she still felt responsible for protecting the British people here. She was a soldier for Britain, so it was kind of her duty and all.

But she sees that everyone is switching over to typing words, which isn't any good for one reason: Iskierka can't read. Flustered, she calls on the one person she would trust in this situation.

Rin, I need your help with something.

[voice between Rin and Iskierka]
[She's a little surprised to hear Iskierka, not actually knowing all that much about Iskierka's relationships with other people.

But she's always ready to answer one of Iskierka's request. Provided they aren't too gregarious.]

What is it?

I cannot send written messages. Will you tell Lelouch that I will aid in his escape, should he need me? I can be very persuasive, I doubt we would even need to fight the Celestials at all.

[voice between Rin and Iskierka]
[And just what do you mean by "persuasive", Iskierka. Rin is pretty sure she can make an educated guess, and doesn't like it.]

All right, will do that. Just... let's do this together?
Feb. 22nd, 2011 04:08 pm (UTC)
[voice between Rin and Iskierka]
[Yes, Iskierka's 'persuasive' measures are anything but. It's best not to let her try anything she thinks up on her own.]

Of course, it is far safer to act as a group. What I mean is that you should leave the dangerous work to me: swords cannot kill me as easily as they can a human.
Feb. 22nd, 2011 04:21 pm (UTC)
[voice between Rin and Iskierka]
If there is any dangerous work, then yes, I'll definitely consult you.

[Rin is kind of hoping against hope they can solve it by talking. It's not the greatest hope she's ever had.]
Feb. 22nd, 2011 04:33 pm (UTC)
[voice between Rin and Iskierka]
Indeed, a peaceful solution would be best.

[As much as Iskierka likes fighting, it would be a curb-stomp battle between her and any humans, which would be very uninteresting to her.]

Though I wonder, why did they say he committed a Capital crime? He did not hurt anyone, nor did he steal anything. What crime did he commit?

Maybe that bit where Ame-no-Uzume is a bitch.
