[week 26, day 7] video

[Naruto sits up suddenly, as if waking from a nightmare, a familiar voice fading into the back of his mind and blue eyes wide, alert, searching.]

[He’d been there only a moment ago. He’s sure of it. But now there is nothing but an unfamiliar landscape. Not Konoha. Not even Fire Country. Panic starts to flood his senses as he reaches for a kunai that isn’t there. His heart nearly stops when he realizes he’s unarmed and possibly in enemy territory.]

[He listens for a response. Anything. Some sign that he isn’t losing his mind. That he hasn’t been captured in his sleep. Or worse; that his memory of Iruka and the popsicle isn’t a lie because he needs that to be real. It’s a foolish reaction. Even the enemy could hear him he’s being so loud. So careless. But he doesn’t care.]

No. Nononono. This is not happening. NOT NOW!

[If only he hadn’t been so stupid to forget all his weapons. Jiraiya had taught him better.]

Ero-sennin...I need you...

[And he doesn’t care when the hot tears blur his vision as he searches for a kunai despite knowing he isn’t carrying one. Finding only an unfamiliar object in his pocket. Black. Reflecting the confusion and pain and fear that is showing on his face and in his eyes.]

[He gets to his feet, wiping away the tears - now isn’t the time to fall apart the familiar voice in his head echoe’s - and turning the object over in his hand. Shaking it. Listening to it. It feels a little warm. As if it’s alive. Or full of some kind of energy he can’t sense. He slides a finger over his reflection and instantly drops the object on the ground when it seems to come to life.]

What the hell?

[He glances around, sensing nothing - no chakra, no enemy - and slowly crouches down to investigate the object again. Poking it with his finger. He frowned and poked it again, wondering what Kakashi-sensei would do in this situation.]

[He knew what he would do. But using a Rasengan to destroy the only clue he had to where he was and what he was doing here seemed a little extreme. At least, that’s what Jiraiya’s voice in his head was telling him. So he closed his hand over the forming ball of chakra and carefully picked up the object again, Iruka’s words echoing in his mind. A weird sense of calm blanketing him as he remembers.]

"Jiraiya-sama was always praising you. He always spoke proudly of you, saying you were like his own grandchild. He believed you were the one who was going to inherit his will. In his mind, he had no doubt about you becoming a great Hokage. Jiraiya-sama will keep watching you. Even now, from somewhere..."

[Hot tears fell onto the object and rolled off onto the ground. It hurt to think about Jiraiya. To remember him. And the reality of the situation was that Jiraiya was dead. Iruka-sensei was gone. Konoha was gone. He was unarmed and he was alone. And all he had was this thing he’d found in his pocket. He wiped the tears off the dark reflective surface and poked it some more. Maybe it was a test...]

[He threw the object against the nearest tree and tugged at his hair in frustration. Now was not the time for this. He’d just lost someone precious and some jerk enemy had to steal him away from his home and put him through some kind of a test. He could fight an enemy. Kill an enemy if he had to. Defeat any test with pure determination. But he didn’t know how to fight this overwhelming pain in his heart. He’d never lost anyone before. He’d never had anyone to lose. And now this.]

[Slowly, he began turning in a circle, searching for any sign of an enemy.]

I don’t know who you are or why you’re doing this and I don’t really care! But I will find you and I will kill you! You send me back right now! NOW! Dammit! NOW!

[The screaming faded into broken sobs and he fell to his knee’s forehead pressed against the ground as his fingers curled and dug into the soil. It was then that he could feel something surrounding him again. A warmth. A sense of calm. Pushing at his senses and spreading slowly through his body. He took a deep breath and let it out slowly, noticing for the first time the sweet scent of nature. He closed his eyes.]

Tell me what to do, Ero-sennin. Iruka-sensei. Kakashi-sensei. Yamato-taichou. Someone...please...for the first time in my life...I don’t what to do.

[WELL that is plenty enough to catch Rin's attention, if she weren't determined about getting back on track with greeting newcomers anyway.]

Iruka-san? Kakashi-san?

[Open and curious, this response, just frank surprise, but then she gets herself in order and smoothens her expression.]

Ah, if we are thinking about the same people, I know them! They were here before, but sadly they are not now. Uhm, can you please try to calm down? I'll explain everything to you.

Re: [video]
[Slowly lifts his head to look at the object laying on the ground a few feet away, caught somewhere between not caring and surprised to hear a voice coming from it.]

[Not just the voice, but the admission that whoever belonged to this voice also knew his Iruka-sensei and hisKakashi-sensei.]

[Even though he'd rather be stay right where he is, he manages to crawl over to the strange object and sit cross-legged next to it. He's almost afraid to pick it up, but he does anyways, poking at the image.]

Who are you?
Jul. 30th, 2011 09:26 am (UTC)
[She smiles at him now, to connect and to hopefully seem at least a little welcoming and reassuring.]

My name is Asano Rin. Nice to meet you.

[A short pause, then:]

To explain your situation. You're now in a world called Kannagara, which is, yes, an entirely different world than the one you come from. You're not alone in this; there are people from all sorts of parallel worlds trapped here for the time being.

[And there she halts, giving him time to digest this first information.]

Re: [video]

[The word is strange and unfamiliar and he can't recall ever seeing Kannagara on any map he's seen. Not that he paid much attention to the details of a map other than how to get from point A to point B. And even then...his thought stops there and he repeats the word:]

[He rubs his arm across his face and looks around at his surroundings.]

So this is a prison?
Jul. 30th, 2011 10:36 pm (UTC)
[And this is where her face falls, just a little.]

Essentially, yes. A big prison, but -- yes.

[She does feel sorry for having to tell him that, oh yes.]

Re: [video]
[At least this is something he can wrap his mind around. To be a prisoner there had to be an enemy. And an enemy could be defeated. There was no other option if he wanted to go home. So he had been taken from his home. He just wished he could remember what had happened after Iruka had given him half the popsicle...]

What kind of prison has a garden?

[It seems strange because he always imagined other shinobi villages having prisons with bars and walls and seals. He hasn't seen anything like the prisons he imagined.]
Aug. 1st, 2011 08:02 pm (UTC)
[Oh dear. Here comes the hard part.]

Ah, well... it's a bit of a strange prison altogether. It's a whole world of its own! It has different countries and villages. On your Hitomi -- that's the thing through which we're talking -- you have a map where you can view it. You're currently in the center, Himorogi. It's where everyone wakes up. From here on, you can go wherever you like, and if you know your destination, it will never take longer than half an hour by foot.

Strange, I know. It's all a little... magical, I suppose.

Re: [video]
[Turns the Hitomi over in his hands, examining it again. But it doesn't look any different. Except...how is he just now noticing the kanji on the back?]

This thing has a map on it?

[Shakes the Hitomi and pokes it, trying to make it work for him. Maybe if he looks at the map he can figure out a way to escape.]
Aug. 11th, 2011 09:40 am (UTC)
[Oh dear. Clearly, the Hitomi is news to him. Let's go about this the Past People way, then.]

Ah, no... there should be a button on the front that says "map".
Aug. 12th, 2011 02:33 am (UTC)
Re: [video]
I don't see any buttons.

[Because he's looking for an actual button on the nearly flat object in his hand. Something he can push. But he's pushing everywhere and nothing is happening.]
Aug. 12th, 2011 11:28 am (UTC)
Just... look for something that says "map".
Aug. 25th, 2011 12:24 am (UTC)
Re: [video]
Map. Map. Map.

[Blue eyes search the Hitomi until he see's a picture with the word 'Map' below it. He holds it closer and blinks.]

Map! But it's not a button, it's a picture.
