[ week 27, Day 4 -- voice ]

[ It begins with silence, not even the rustling of the wind to disturb it, to prove there is anything recording, but that obvious sense that there is something there, quietly recording, waiting for the right moment.

Finally, after those long stretching moments of silence and peace, it is disrupted, the rustling sound of clothing. It's so subtle one might even consider that the passing of the wind rather than movement, if it were not followed up by more and more, louder and louder until it is obvious that whatever it is on the other side of the Hitomi is alive and it is moving. ]

Huh... [ A short pause, a voice a little distant from the Hitomi, as if its speaker is looking up. ] Isn't that strange?

[ The voice of a woman, soft and smooth, but not quite kind. She's hardly interested in that tree, or the grass or anything, really. Not that she'll complain about a vacation. ]

I wonder...

[ Her voice is much closer to the Hitomi this time, much more sweet than her musings, and obvious smile, bordering on smirk. Perhaps you can even picture a pretty young woman tilting her head and setting her eyes on whoever might be on the other end, because that is precisely what she'd be doing were this video. ]

... if there's a sweet young man out there who can help me. [ She knew all along about it recording. ]

[Something about this recording catches Rin's attention. That voice, it's eerily familiar. The tone, the word choice, she's heard it all before. She puzzles over the whole thing for a moment, trying to figure it out, trying to remember. For it's an old memory, and a fading one. How often, exactly, has she heard this voice? Did it have much of an impact on her old life?

She jogs her memory through tea houses, inns, seedy bars, and that bath house -- and then it hits her. So much so it almost knocks the wind out of her, and certainly makes her gasp into the receiver.]

[A moment of silence, then, as Rin is unsure what to say, if she should say anything more at all. But, ah, maybe just the name is a bit... meager.]

... Hyakurin! Can you hear me? Hello?

It's me. Rin.
Aug. 12th, 2011 10:54 pm (UTC)

[ It's not because she doesn't know who Rin might be, or that she doesn't recognize that voice, because it really wasn't that long ago since that little girl left her bodyguard behind. It's more surprise?

That smirk and that lilt is gone now. She didn't expect to find her before Manji. ]

It looks like I found you first. [ Unless Manji's around here too, in which case, how could he just leave her like that! ]

Is Mister Bodyguard with you, by chance?
Aug. 13th, 2011 08:14 am (UTC)
[That answer... reminds her of that dilemma she had with Manji, where he came from way earlier than her. While the possibility doesn't feel like quite as much of a blow with Hyakurin, that and the inquiry after Manji are enough to darken her mood a little.]

Ah, no. He hasn't been around here for a while.

Say, what happened to you last... back home?
Aug. 15th, 2011 06:49 am (UTC)
[ Hyakurin has a few things she'd like to say about that bastard bodyguard if he really did up and leave her there, but something far more important catches her ear.

'Back home' is not something she wants to hear right now. ]

What do you mean, 'back home'?
Aug. 15th, 2011 09:44 am (UTC)
[Oh, right. Time for that talk.]

Ah... well, yes! I think you've probably noticed we're not in Edo anymore, right?

[But then she remembers that time when Kannagara turned into Edo, and her encounter with Anotsu.]

... have you heard of a place called "Kannagara"?
Aug. 16th, 2011 05:00 am (UTC)
[ Might be a bit of a sigh. ]

Yeah, I figured as much. [ Not that it makes any sense on how she ever left, or what will happen when someone finds out she isn't there anymore... ]

Not before this. Should I?
Aug. 16th, 2011 10:10 am (UTC)
Ah, no. It's quite normal that you haven't. Just making sure. [That you're not a figment of her imagination, or an illusion of the gods trying to mess with her head.]

You see, Kannagara is, uhm... an entirely different world. It was created by the gods of our homeland, or so it appears, though the people here can be from entirely different places. And... [here comes the long-suffering sigh] basically, we're trapped.
Aug. 17th, 2011 08:14 am (UTC)
[ You worry her a little, girl. Funny talk is never a good sign.

Gods. New world. People from different places. Trapped.

A long, long silence, as if she's processing it. And then: ]

Did you hit your head?
Aug. 17th, 2011 09:23 am (UTC)
[Oh, this again. Rin bites back a sarcastic reply and instead just sighs.]

No, I did not. Come on, did you ever see anything like this Hitomi thing we're talking through? Do you know a place where you are now anywhere near Edo? Besides, any "sweet boy" you'll talk to will tell you the same.
Aug. 18th, 2011 06:17 am (UTC)
No. I was just gunna say I hit mine too.

[ Concussion dream, all the way.

But saying it's fake isn't going to make it any less weird and Rin's not really that crazy. Reckless and naive, but not crazy. ]

Kannagara, you said? How'd I get here?
Aug. 18th, 2011 09:35 am (UTC)
No one knows. Magic or something. It doesn't really make sense.

[Another sigh!]

That's one of the first lessons I learned here. To let go of that thought that things have to make sense.
Aug. 29th, 2011 05:12 am (UTC)
Yeah, well, I kind of like my life to make some sense.

[ She isn't blaming you. Just whatever this is.

She pauses, a deep inhale. ]

Anything else I should know about this place?
