[ When the Hitomi turns on, it's through a smear of something thick, red, and viscous. Through the red haze, a flash of silver glints in the sun, tinged with red, and then an eye comes into view, just under the curve of a dark blue stretch of fabric -- before the image zooms out and the sight of what may be a familiar masked face to some fills the screen. The man peers intently down at the screen, his hair as disheveled as the rest of him -- matted with streaks of blood and dirt and grime. He frowns, and then the Hitomi turns upside down, before righting itself again.

There's a shrug of a shoulder before the Hitomi is set down, blades of grass poking up and framing the sight of the man walking away, carrying a massive broadsword nearly the size of his body propped on his shoulder. The blade is smeared with blood.

The Hitomi continues to film for some time, long after the man is gone, before cutting to black abruptly. ]

[What a weird video. And definitely one that rings alarm bells, what with the thick, red, viscous... but then, oh.

Face. Familiar face.

It's enough to make Rin respond on impulse.]

Kakashi-san? You're back?
Nov. 6th, 2011 09:10 pm (UTC)
[ This is not a familiar voice.

Kakashi does not know where it comes from. He glances about at first, sending out his chakra -- but feels nothing. Only the depth of the forest. It then occurs to him that the voice seemed to be coming from his... pocket? After a bit of searching, he discovers the strange device he had discarded earlier, surprised to see the face of a young girl who he doesn't recognize.

It then occurs to him -- this must be Uchiha Madara's doing. He has, after all, the ability to both create illusions and send an individual to another dimension.

So Kakashi narrows his eye as he stares down at the screen, and then proceeds to ignore it. ]

[... okay, what's with the weird.]

Ah, Kakashi-san? You heard me, right?

[A bit of blank, baffled staring at the screen... until things click.]

Do you... even remember?
Nov. 6th, 2011 09:26 pm (UTC)
[ It's the girl again.

Kakashi studies her for a moment. ]

I heard you. [ A pause. ] I remember very well that you use a time-space jutsu. I don't know where you've transported me to, or why you insist upon creating such genjutsu, but I'm not going to fall for your attempts to distract me from returning to the field, Madara.

[ Maybe if he makes it clear to Madara that he isn't going to fall for these illusions, then Madara will come forth. ]

A whatamagjig?

Look, I'm not this Madara person, I'm Rin, and the only jutsu I know is kenjutsu. You know, with a sword?

Anyway, it's not this Madara person who's brought you here -- or, well, I don't think so. It's the gods. It's their very own little playground, called "Kannagara", and you were here before, which is why I remember you.

Got it so far?
Nov. 6th, 2011 10:13 pm (UTC)
[ The response comes a few hours later -- Kakashi no longer appears to be in a forest. In fact, it looks very much like he's somehow found his way into Hisato.

In the time that he's taken to explore the limits of this world, he's discovered that it is very possible that it is not, as he had originally thought, a genjutsu. If only because it is far too elaborate, to large, to be a genjutsu. As powerful as Madara is, Kakashi doesn't think it is possible to fashion an immense world with so much complexity. Which means that he has transported Kakashi somewhere.

To Kannagara, apparently, this girl says.

(Though there is still a part of Kakashi that is suspicious -- if only because this girl's name is Rin. That strikes a little too close to home for comfort.)

He clears his throat slightly. ]

Alright. So this isn't an illusion. [ He begins, after a moment. ] But I've never been here before.
Nov. 6th, 2011 10:26 pm (UTC)
[In the meantime, Rin begins to think she should just not expect to hear from him again, which both saddens and worries her a little. Will he be okay?

It is a pleasant surprise, then, when he does answer her after all, and this time more receptive to what she has to say. She smiles tentatively at him.]

No, you have. You just don't remember it. That happens sometimes. So... I guess it's just as if you'd never been here in the first place, but some people might still remember you.
Nov. 6th, 2011 10:38 pm (UTC)
That's impossible.

[ Kakashi can't think of a single moment in recent history where there was some strange gap in his memory, or unaccounted for period of time. And yet, this girl seems to know him, or at least, recognize him. He's not sure what that means.

This has some kind of strange connection to the afterlife. But even then, he distinctly remembers walking through the dark and finding his father. Spending time with him. ]
Nov. 6th, 2011 11:03 pm (UTC)
I know it sounds that way, but... well, I've found "impossible" doesn't exist here.

[And there is much resignation in her voice.]
Nov. 7th, 2011 01:53 am (UTC)
[ A little while later. Kakashi is becoming increasingly... used to the idea that maybe... he was here, somehow. ]

One of my comrades told me that we exist as... "copies" here. Do you know anything more about this?
Nov. 7th, 2011 08:42 am (UTC)
Oh, right!

[MAN why was she totally forgetting that.]

Something about... when we come here, we also keep existing at home at the same time. Just... another self.

[She also remembers that bit of there apparently being infinite versions of oneself, but she decides this is advanced material.]
Nov. 7th, 2011 09:47 pm (UTC)
[ This sounds to Kakashi a bit like the possibility of clones, except clones can only exist as long as their user wants them to -- and Kakashi certainly is not a clone. So Rin's explanation does not help very much at all. ]

Another self.

[ He repeats, instead. ]

I see.

[ But not really. ]
Nov. 7th, 2011 10:08 pm (UTC)
[Oh, she can so see through that.]

It's a lot to take in, I know. But I've found it sets the mind at ease at least a little.
Nov. 7th, 2011 10:10 pm (UTC)
Does it.

[ Because Kakashi? Definitely not set at ease. ]
Nov. 7th, 2011 10:15 pm (UTC)
Well... in the sense that any unfinished business at home probably is not going to implode while you're stuck here? Yes.
