Video 001 [Week 3, Day 5]

[This is the video feature. On the other end of the video, a warm, friendly - if slightly exaggeratedly dazed - looking young man sits in the sunshine. Strands of his hair seem almost gold, though it's little more than a trick of the light that he is sitting in. To be more specific, Light has chosen the setting very carefully -- to appeal, and seem more trustworthy.]

I've had the chance to look around, but the only really out of place thing about this seems to be this device. It doesn't look like it belongs at all -- just like me.

So I suppose I'm making this post in earnest, looking for anyone that can help me out a little here. I've just arrived, and I have to admit that I'm more than a little lost. Confused. Where am I, and why? How did I even get here?

[He shakes his head, looking a little frantic. His lips press together fiercely for a moment, then he forces himself to relax to speak again.]

Please, if anyone can help I'd be forever in your debt. My name is Light

[And on the other end, the neutral, but friendly face of a girl.]

New, huh? Well, ah... this place is called "Kannagara". And -- and this might or might not sound real crazy -- it's ruled by gods. I want to say "supposedly", but evidence is pretty strong so far. They're also who brought us here.

[Pause, then:]

My name's Rin, by the way.

I've been told a little of this already, although obviously I'm not much of a believer in gods myself. [Oh, the lies, they've started already. Death gods, surely.] But I did think that it had to be...some kind of power or something completely illogical that brought me here, so why not?

It's nice to meet you, Rin.

This will seem like an odd question, maybe -- I'm not sure what kind of questions you're meant to ask in a situation like this -- but have you been here long?
Mar. 28th, 2010 08:11 am (UTC)
Nice to meet you, too.

Oh, no, it's not odd at all. I'm in my third week here now -- not so sure about others, but I think there are several people who have been here for a good while longer.
Mar. 28th, 2010 09:50 am (UTC)
Is it difficult to settle in? I can't imagine it's easy, but are you comfortable?
Mar. 28th, 2010 11:54 am (UTC)
... well. I think that depends a little on and a little on this place. If you want to settle in, it's principally not that hard -- there are a lot of empty houses, and storages full of rice and other grains. The comfort in the houses seems to vary a little from village to village.

There are, however, a few very severe setbacks. First, your dreams will be broadcasted against your consent and knowledge -- at least until you wake up, of course. Second, during the last week, extremely horrifying things happened here. By that I mean people died because of it, and not the easy way, either.

I think those are the main points. Welcome to Kannagara.
Mar. 28th, 2010 12:58 pm (UTC)
Welcome to Kannagara, mind the step?

[He should have known it would be dangerous in some way; that there would be some set back. The world itself seemed beautiful, somehow familiar and open. L's presence was of course one such issue, but to share his dreams? Such dreams as he had, of grandeur and victory? Of standing over his opponents while the world called his name in adoration?

He did not want those dreams shared. Silence on his end, lost in thought, and then he speaks again, deliberately.

What kind of horrifying things? I'd like to be prepared, if that's possible.
Mar. 28th, 2010 01:15 pm (UTC)
Hah! Something like that.

[Deep breath. Rin doesn't really like recalling it in detail, but she sees that this person can need all the information he can get.]

Basically, a monster attack. Several monsters, some of which looked like the yōma people talk about in my homeland -- you seem to be speaking Japanese, so I think you may be familiar with them? And then other fun stuff to go along with it, like water turning to blood and hallucinations. Waking dreams. Dreams you could actually play a part in.
Mar. 29th, 2010 04:50 am (UTC)
It's a little unspecific - yōma. I have a hard time believing in monsters as it is, but... I'll set that aside for now.

[Certainly it was possible for him to imagine some scientific way for dreams to be recorded, and hallucinations - although perhaps not mass halucinations - could be explained away through drugs, somehow. But monsters? Monsters that could kill people?]

It sounds nightmareish. And this lasted for a week? Only for a week?
Mar. 29th, 2010 08:32 am (UTC)
Well, there were a lot of different kinds, and I didn't exactly go up there to have a good look at them. And... I think you'll believe them when -- if you ever see them. Just note that this kinda thing happens.

[It is very evident from Rin's tone that she's in severe disapproval of the whole thing. Maybe still a little weary from it. It tears at her nerves even after, that: because who knows when something like it will strike again, and she's near-defenseless. At least she's got allies now. Small blessings.]

That's correct. It ceased precisely on the seventh day of the week before the current.
