[Video] Week 4, Day 2

[A loud yawn can be heard across the Hitomi, as well as a childish whine as a small arm comes into view, little hand fisted back as the child works through a mighty stretch. There is a happy exclamation and a sudden flurry of motion, the blankets tossed aside as Raikou rolls out of his futon and pops up to his feet.

He appears to be no more than seven – with bright russet eyes, chin-length honey-blond hair and straight bangs that fall to his eyebrows. He frowns as he glances down at himself, mutters aloud that he’ll get in trouble if mother catches him playing with father’s yukata again, then glances around and scurries to don the miniature hakama and gi that are laid out at the foot of his futon.

Unaware that he is within view of the Hitomi, he quickly pulls on his clothes and spends a long moment ensuring his appearance is neat, just as mother expects. He does a little dance from foot to foot and makes a dash for the door, only to skid to a stop and scurry back, hastily grabbing the miniature wooden bokken and sliding it into place, at his right hip.

That is when he catches sight of the Hitomi and curious, he wanders over to it and lifts it up, pokes at it with a small finger before taking off in a flurry of motion, muttering to himself.]

I gotta—unnn—I have to give this to Uncle before he gets mad and think I’ve stolen it. And I’ve got to get to breakfast before I’m late! If I’m good, Mother’s going to let me use a real katana today, n’stead of the stupid bokken…an’ she said if I do well, then I can go with her to see Miharu-kun, so I’ll get to ride the bullet train!

He’s supposed to be almost as big as Raimei now, but babies are boring…but still, I get to go with! Unless father’s having a bad day, then we won’t go at all…

Then I’ll have to spend the whole day in the dojo, but if it’s with my own katana…

[He makes a face and sighs, the sound much older than his seven years should be capable of.]

Just once, I wish she’d let me play with my classmates. It’s Keigo-kun’s birthday party today…but no…

[his tone shifts mocking as his voice raises to mimic]

They are not part of Nabari, Raikou. Don’t let attachment cloud your judgement, Raikou. You can’t remain neutral between the outside world and Nabari if you spend too much time in one or the other, Raikou.

Your skill with a blade is not where it should be Raikou…stupid mother…

(OOC: Since the anime doesn’t really describe anything before Raikou’s 15, I’m stealing from the manga a bit, where it’s revealed that Miharu is the second cousin to the Shimizu siblings. I’ve also taken the liberty of having the gods place his age appropriate clothes in the room. Hope that’s alright!)

[Most of what Rin sees there is very familiar. A little boy in his hakama, with his bokken and the formal air -- he must be the heir to some samurai family. There are also parts in this scene Rin doesn't understand, but she ignores that and sticks to what she does. It's comforting in this unfamiliar place.]

Hey! You're samurai, right?

Re: [video]
I am!

[Finally - someone recognizes proper breeding and standing! This relieves Raikou because it's familiar, except...it's a girl.

Little eyes widen as he realizes these kidnappers ARE stealing little girls! Oh, now he's mad - they go too far. Wait until Lalouch finds out...

Between the two of them, they will make these kidnappers rue the day they messed with these children!]

Hey, hey! Oneechan, are you safe? These kidnappers... to steal a little girl... where are you? I'll come get you and protect you until we can get to the others, okay?
Apr. 11th, 2010 08:42 am (UTC)
Cool! So'm I!

[Preening here. But oh: kidnappers, he says? Sounds like a very serious situation. Maybe not quite as serious as ghosts, but serious enough.]

I'm, uh... in a town made of stone. 'm pretty safe. I think.

Re: [video]
Really?! Then we should pl--train together!

[He looks thoughtful at that, realizing that some kids might actually be from here]

Do you live there or is it not your home? Because a bunch of us woke up in places not home, with strangers trying to tell us what to do and order us around...
Apr. 11th, 2010 05:07 pm (UTC)
Train? Like sword training?

[That makes her perk up; she's not allowed to do that, but she thinks it's kinda cool and has wanted to try it out for a while. She knows dad might scold, but what he can't see...]

No, I'm not from here! This place's totally different from home!
Apr. 13th, 2010 05:07 pm (UTC)
Re: [video]

You mean you're a samurai but you haven't started training with you katana yet? [Totally perplexed!]

Well! Just be careful and watch out for adults...some of them might be working for the kidnappers! And if you can, use the phone to pull up the map and meet us at Himirogi, okay? All of us other stolen kids are meeting there.
Apr. 13th, 2010 05:44 pm (UTC)
Duh. I'm a girl.

[Says this like the most natural thing in the world. Which, where she's from, it is. But then, she nods earnestly!]

Um! Will do.
Apr. 13th, 2010 06:03 pm (UTC)
Re: [video]
So? My Mother is Clan Head - no one is stronger than her, not even Uncle! And my sister will be just as strong a samurai! Well...after she gets all her teeth and can learn to hold a bokken.

[He's perplexed - several of the shinobi clans have women as leaders, and the female members of the Shimizu clan start training at the same time as the males - once their steps are steady and they can hold a bokken. He doesn't see how being a girl is relevant, at all.]

But don't worry, you'll see once she comes to rescue us! And I'll even teach you how to hold a bokken once you get to Himorogi.
Apr. 13th, 2010 06:08 pm (UTC)
Huh? That's weird. Girls don't get to be fighters. They get to be wives.

[Not... that she isn't sounding maybe perhaps the slightest bit jealous. She thinks swords are kinda cool. That's why, for response to his last words, she whispers in awe!]

... you would?
Apr. 13th, 2010 06:15 pm (UTC)
Re: [video]
But my mom's a wife too! She's my dad's wife!

[He stops walking to bring the Hitomi closer to his face so he can really look at her. he shakes his head and makes a face.]

In Nabari, it's not about boys and girls. Both can fight, no matter the village! I mean...

[Another shake of the head, which is quickly changed to a nod, and this time he's blushing.]

Um, yes? Unless you don't want to! Then I'm sorry and didn't mean to be rude, honest!
Apr. 13th, 2010 06:24 pm (UTC)
Yeah, well, maybe it's different out in the country, but we're... I'm from the city!

[It's very evident that she's repeating something she heard elsewhere. She perks up a little at the prospect of bokken training, but then she remembers something and her face falls.]

... I don' think my dad would like that.
Apr. 13th, 2010 06:42 pm (UTC)
Re: [video]
The country? Oneesan - I'm from Tokyo! It's like...the largest city in Japan!

[Raikou frowns at this because really - what kind of samurai would restrict his child so? But then he perks up.]

Well, we'll just remind him that I am the heir to the clan head and that as such, I'm allowed to teach whomever I wish! He can argue with my mother if he's really brave enough.
Apr. 13th, 2010 06:50 pm (UTC)
You said "villages". And nuh uh, Edo is!

[This is sounding really tempting. Really, really tempting. And, well, dad's not actually here, so technically...]

We gotta keep it a secret.
Apr. 13th, 2010 07:00 pm (UTC)
Re: [video]
[The look he is giving her is clearly one that says a great big 'huh?!]

Um...Tokyo was called Edo a couple a hundred years ago. We learned that in class last week. Are you sure you're not from the country instead? But okay, it's a secret.

[Nabari is built on secrets - nothing is ever as it seems, at least according to his father. And by his reconing, this is a small secret, since girls are so too allowed to train!]

Apr. 13th, 2010 07:15 pm (UTC)
No way! I'm from the -- the -- the capital! An' it's called Edo right now!

[Buuut then she beams.]

Okay! Then we can train!
